Elvis Perkins in Dearland – Shampoo

Elvis Perkins in Dearland – Shampoo
Album: Elvis Perkins in Dearland

Rarely do the vocals put me over the top on a song, but Elvis Perkins does it on this track. Not only does it put me over the top on this song, but on folk music in general. Shampoo, from Elvis Perkins’ second album, is constantly developing, and as I’ve said before I love development! I’ve only heard the rest of the myspace page, but it is all quality. *Fun Fact* Elvis is the son of Anthony Perkins, who played Norman Bates in Psycho.

Nine Inch Nails (Modwheelmood remix) – The Great Destroyer

Y34R Z3R0 R3M1X3D album art

Not a very recent song but it’s way up there on my all time list. This is a remix of The Great Destroyer which came out in 2007 on the album Year Zero. It’s a great example of how different a remix can be from the original material and why hindering it is such a loss (see Good Copy, Bad Copy.)

Depeche Mode – Wrong

Songs of the Universe album art
Depeche Mode – Wrong
Album: Songs of the Universe

Finally posting this single off Depeche Mode’s newest album. They were doing a good job at first taking this one down as it was posted, but I think the internet finally won. The girl in L4D2 is gonna be wearing a Depeche Mode shirt, so I wanted to show some love.

Arcade Fire – Burning Bridges

N/A album art

This song was released to promote Arcade Fire’s DVD documentary, Miroir Noir, which covers the creation of Neon Bible and the tour that went with it. This version is instrumental, but they’ve performed it with lyrics. I posted this because I figured most people have heard their albums. If not, go to their Myspace and then if those work for you iMeem has most of their songs streamable.

Foreign Born – Early Warnings

Person to Person album art
Foreign Born – Early Warnings
Album: Person to Person

I haven’t gotten a chance to listen to this entire album, but I like this single. They definitely share a bit of the Vampire Weekend sound, but without so much of the hype. The album came out last weekend and the band is from LA. By the way, comments now display on the main page for the most recent post.

Interpol – Pioneer to the Falls
Album: Our Love to Admire

Reaching back a bit into the archives for this but I owe it a post for waking me up a few times on my way to and from work. I’m not a huge Interpol fan, though a few of their songs like this stick out at me.

Muse – United States of Eurasia

The Resistance album art

Wow. I’m embarrassed to say Corey had to point this one out to me. New Muse single off their album due Sept 14. This song is pretty different, so that comes with its good and its bad. But that’s a great thing about Muse… their sound has never been the same across albums. Absolution’s still my fav. but I really look forward to their next one! You can count on us posting more.

Jónsi & Alex – Boy 1904
Album: Riceboy Sleeps

Jónsi & Alex is the name of the duo of Jón Þór Birgisson, singer of Sigur Ros, and Alex Somers. This is from their first album as a pair, and from the little I’ve heard (the first song, which was also on Dark was the Night) it shows some promise. Thom Yorke – All for the Best
Album: Caio My Shining Star: The Songs of Mark Mulcahy

This is the opening track off of a tribute album to Mark Mulcahy, who is an artist who I honestly don’t know anything about apart from his wikipedia article which I just now read. I like this style of music and it’s Thom Yorke so it merits a post.
