Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Dull Life

Album: It’s Blitz!

Posting some shameless pop here. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs tend to hit a nerve with me, but I really like this song. The album comes out on the 31st and since “Zero” seems to be the primary single for it this link may go dead very shortly.

Hot Chip & Peter Gabriel – Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa (Cover)

Unreleased album art

This is a cover of the Vampire Weekend original. If you haven’t heard that version you can hear it and watch the super lame video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wHl9qRsMzw. Peter Gabriel is referenced in the original which adds some irony to the cover, which I actually prefer, though I’m not a big Vampire Weekend fan.

Anathallo – Noni’s Glow

Anathallo – Noni’s Glow
Album: Canopy Glow

This is a band out of Chicago IL and the album came out last year. It’s some pretty strong indie pop, and there are some aspects of it that kind of get to me (the solo singing) but other more harmonic parts mostly redeem those negatives. This is their second album and honestly I’ve only listened to one or two other songs so I can’t put in a strong endorsement.

Silversun Pickups – Panic Switch

Swoon album art

This is a single of Silversun Pickup’s second album. I like their sound, but it definitely fills a different void for me. The same void Palcebo fills, which is a nice change of pace from my usual – I guess it’s just for less heavy listening, but they still have a good upbeat sound.

Passion Pit – Sleepy Head

Manners album art

This band is from Cambridge. I think the high pitch singing effect is a bit too Hamster Dance, but the song is different enough to warrant its post here.

The Antlers – Kettering

Hospice album art

I was torn between this and Two, both off of the new album which came out on the 3rd of March. They’re coming to Chapel Hill tomorrow night — I’d like to try and make it if I can. This band started as a bedroom project by Peter Silberman and what I’ve heard has been very mellow and electronic-driven. NPR’s All Songs Considered was the source for this pick.

M. Ward – Stars of Leo
Album: Hold Time

I’m honestly not much of a fan of M. Ward but people like his music and some of it I find interesting. This is his sixth album and came out Feb. 17th. Ward also collaborates with Zooey Deschanel in She & Him.

Edit: I can’t find a link to this song any longer so the myspace page will have to do. http://www.myspace.com/mward

The Books – Cello Song
Album: Dark Was the Night

Ok this is my last post from this album. This one didn’t immediately jump out at me, but I’ve started to like it a whole lot. The Books is an experimental folk band from New York city. Good song for headphones.

Glasvegas – Daddy’s Gone

Glasvegas album art

This is a new band from Scotland, and this album was released last year. They have another good single, Geraldine, but I opted to go with this because I think it has more character. I love the clean guitar – I’m reminded of 60’s ballads, but that’s me. I wanted to love this band, but then I saw they played a Nirvana cover…

Evil Nine! – They Live!

They Live album art

This is a single from a pair of DJs from England. Judging from the fact that this album has no wikipedia page, I’m thinking it wasn’t immensely popular. I heard this song as a remix on hypem, because they aggregate a disproportionate amount of remixes. Still here’s the original. It doesn’t take much to hook me. I get real into the opening of this song (easy and true chord progression will win me over every time). If you like this you might want to check out the video on Youtube. I haven’t done a dance song in a while, and I wanted to go with Depche Mode but they are being stingy with their new single.
